Located in the heart of Old Town Murrieta, Joannie’s Cantina stands out as an authentic, spirited dive bar that perfectly captures the laid-back, community-driven vibe of this charming Southern California town. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by an unmistakable warmth—a blend of friendly bartenders, familiar faces, and the nostalgic ambiance of a classic western hangout. It’s no wonder regulars like Jen Armstrong praise Joannie’s as “the best local hangout” with “the best bartenders ever!” This is a place where everyone knows your name and good times are always on tap.
The cantina’s inviting interior channels that quintessential dive bar atmosphere without feeling cramped or cluttered. Sean Sabo’s insight rings true: while it boasts a small footprint, the space feels surprisingly open and welcoming, especially when the energy of the crowd fills the room. The bar’s charm extends to its rustic, old-timey western decor that fits seamlessly with the historic vibe of Murrieta’s Old Town district.
When it comes to drinks, Joannie’s boasts a no-nonsense menu centered around your classic cold beers—with a large PBR and Coors Light highlighted as local favorites. Elizabeth Poindexter’s mention of the “best Bloody Mary’s” adds a flavorful option for those seeking a well-crafted cocktail to complement their evening, especially during weekend brunches or chill afternoons. Whether you're grabbing a refreshing beer after work or indulging in a few rounds over a game of pool, the bartenders’ quick and friendly service keeps the atmosphere lively and enjoyable.
A big draw for many visitors is the genuine community feel that permeates the cantina. Daniel Wolf’s decades-long patronage speaks volumes: Joannie’s isn’t just a bar; it’s a staple of Old Town Murrieta’s nightlife, the last stop open until 2 AM, where locals gather for affordable drinks, engaging company, and good old-fashioned fun. With ample parking and pool tables ready to challenge your skills, it’s easy to see why so many come back time and again.
There’s an undeniable sense of belonging here, where the stories, laughter, and music blend into an experience that’s both timeless and alive. Whether you’re a newcomer hoping to find your spot—like Elizabeth from Florida—or a seasoned regular, Joannie’s Cantina welcomes you with open arms and a cold beer.
For anyone looking for an authentic, no-frills bar with a strong community vibe and just the right touch of local flavor, Joannie’s Cantina is Murrieta’s go-to destination. Come for the drinks, stay for the friends, and leave with memories that only a truly beloved local dive can create.

This bar inspired Toby Keith and has Cheers vibes during the day, should change name tho to Jolene's :)
Great dive bar! Good price and location. Been going here for years and am liking the changes. Bartenders are all cool people as well as the patrons too. Pool tables are available and parking is huge so you'll find a spot. Fun for sure and last place around in Old Town Murrieta thats open until 2AM
A fun little bar in a cool little town... The appearance is of the same old-timey western feel that the rest of 'Old-Town' Murrieta has. Inside is a typical little dive bar atmosphere, but it's clean and arranged well; it feels more spacious than it is when it isn't busy. Prices are fair, drinks are made well, bartenders are quick, and they are friendly too. It definitely has a community feel and the regulars seemed chil, respectful, and welcoming to ne½wcomers. ³ Lastly, the pool tables are in great shape.
Great crowd very welcoming I just moved here from Florida if you have a couple drinks and pool table… The Bloody Mary’s are the best!
I didn't have any food. So I don't know if the food is good. However, it's a small but very friendly, social place. Karaoke nights are so much fun!
Decent small little bar. Always welcoming and good service.
